Jonathan is a former Investment Director at QinetiQ where he worked in the ventures team helping to create and grow early stage businesses. Prior to QinetiQ, he worked in Germany for Schott Glas AG, part of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, where he was Investment and Partnering director. Initially he set up the Venture fund investments for Schott, later a number of direct investments in Israel and the US. Jonathan started his career as a research scientist and commercial manager at Albright & Wilson. He has a DPhil in inorganic chemistry from Oxford University and an honours degree (summa cum laude) in chemistry and German.
Leigh Canham has over 25 years experience conducting research on widely differing aspects of silicon technology and 8 years experience of start-up company management through to public NASDAQ listing. He has served as a board member on private companies in the UK, Singapore and Australia. He is a scientist devoted to finding a range of novel properties and uses for the semiconductor that already pervades our everyday lives, and he particularly thrives on interdisciplinary science. His work spans nanomaterials science and the lifesciences, specifically brachytherapy, drug delivery and diagnostics, with a current focus on nutrition and consumer care products. Two key personal discoveries – that silicon can emit light efficiently (1990) and be rendered biodegradable (1995) have had significant academic impact worldwide, and have spawned the creation of five companies to date.
Dr. Richard J. Dixon has a BSc in Chemistry from Imperial College and a PhD in semiconductor physics. He also has an MBA from Durham University. Before joining Intrinsiq Materials in 2007 he was Director of Operations for an electronics design and manufacturing company floated on the stock market with a market cap of over GBP 100 m. In his early career, Richard worked as a project manager for a large electronics multinational running multi million pound capital installation projects and new product development.
James brings experience in new company formation, business strategy, and business development for high-tech growth companies to the team. His experience includes the initiation and management of strategic partnerships with leading global companies in industries such as electronics, energy, consumer products, and specialty materials. Prior to Intrinsiq Materials, James was a founding team member of Harvard Prof. George Whitesides’ company Nano-Terra, Inc. where he was responsible for business development and account management. In his early career, James was a business strategy consultant with Andersen Consulting in Europe working with leading companies in the consumer goods, financial services, and information technology industries. James holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School and served as an Army Ranger in the German Army. James is a German citizen and a permanent resident of the U.S.
Dr. Paul Reip has a PhD in Materials from Brunel University, and joined the UK MOD in 1982. He spent the early part of his career as research scientist in weapon programmes, where he was heavily involved in International Collaboration with the USA, Europe and NATO. He was promoted to Department Manager Electro Optic Warfare in 1995, and in 1998 moved to lead the Guns and Warheads Department. During this time he founded QinetiQ Nanomaterials Ltd, was CEO on its inception in 2002, moving to Chief Technology Officer in 2005. Paul is also Director, Nanotechnology Ventures in QinetiQ PLC and represents both companies in various National and International nanotechnology forums. He is a Board Member of the UK Nanotechnologies Industries Association.
Ian joined Intrinsiq Materials in 2003. He possesses a BSc in Physics and a PhD in Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics from the University of Manchester. His early career started with De Beers Industrial Diamond Division in 1981 in Johannesburg where he worked on the development of polycrystalline diamond and cubic boron nitride materials for the cutting tool and oil drilling industries. On returning to the UK in 1986, he held technical sales, marketing and business development roles with De Beers and latterly with Umicore Advanced Materials in Belgium.
Tony received his D.Phil. from Oxford specializing in new materials and brings over 15 years of experience to the team. Over his career he has earned a reputation as a change manager. He has led substantial manufacturing teams across several factories and has been responsible for R&D across multi-billion GBP companies. In addition he has run multi-million GBP projects. Multi-lingual, an expert in IP, in business analysis and problem solving, Tony has also run his own IP consultancy for 4 years. One of his own patents is the basis for a limited company of which is he co-owner. He has managed strategic change across many pan-European packaging operations, and with major brand customers including Nestle, Unilever and Ford.
Stephen is Managing Partner UK and has 25 years of international experience in investing in and managing high technology businesses. He has been a senior executive in global technology businesses such as Reuters and QinetiQ, an entrepreneur in venture backed start ups such as iVillage, and developed a successful track record as a corporate venture capitalist. Stephen was founding executive of Reuters Greenhouse fund. Prior to founding Cody gate Ventures, Stephen was Director of the New Business Accelerator at QinetiQ. He has lived and worked in the USA, UK, Sweden and France, has a Masters in Technology and Innovation from Theseus, France and is a UK qualified Chartered Accountant.
Michael is Managing Partner, US and has over 25 years of experience creating, managing and investing in technology ventures. As a senior advisor to QinetiQ, SRI International, and NTT corporation, Michael recently provided value creation and business development leadership. Previously, he was Vice President of Business Development for SRI International where he managed the process of shaping, selling and delivering technologies to the software systems, and advanced materials commercial markets. Michael has managed new ventures in the US, Japan, and the UK. He has an MBA from the University of Connecticut.
